The Wheel represents the circle of the seasons, the Wheel of the Year. Symbolic also, of reincarnation, it is the unbroken cycle of Life-Death-Rebirth and the circle of unity. Wheels help us to move from place to place and create change and evolution in our lives. It is probably no coincidence that the word "weal" meaning "good" (and which gives us words such as "wealth" is a homonym. The wheel is the sacred symbol of the Celtic goddess Arianrhod. The Wheel of the Year refers to the movement of time in a circular pattern through the seasons, and to the eight Sabbats of the witches and the pagan folk of old Europe. These seasonal festivals occur at the solstices and equinoxes (the quarters) and half way between (the cross-quarters). Although spelled in many ways, and celebrated on different dates, depending on tradition, these Sabbats are: Samhain (15 degrees Scorpio, commonly celebrated as Halloween on October 31st), Yule (0 degrees Capricorn, Winter Solstice), Imbolc (15 degrees Aquarius, commonly celebrated at February 2nd, also known as Brigid's Day or Groundhog Day), Ostara (0 degrees Aries, Spring Equinox), Beltane (15 degrees Taurus, commonly celebrated as May Day, May 1st, and Walpurgis Nacht, April 31st), Litha, (0 degrees Cancer, Summer Solstice, also called Midsummer), Lammas or Lughnasa (15 degrees Leo, commonly celebrated August 1st), Mabon (0 degrees Libra, Autumn Equinox).
