Buddha

Buddha was born Gautama Siddartha, the son of a king. Forsaking title, wealth and family, he traveled India as a hermit on his search for enlightenment. This he found after six years of wandering, while sitting under a bo tree. Upon achieving enlightenment, he was given the choice of ascending to nirvana or traveling the world and teaching others. He chose the latter and became founder of the Buddhist religion.
