Bacchus DionysysBacchus (Roman) and Dionysus (Greek) is the god of wine and intoxication. On one hand they are gods of fertility, agriculture and nature, on the other they represent ecstatic states used to reach spiritual enlightenment. Their orgiastic celebration (and sometimes criminal to downright murderous), the Bacchanalia got so out of hand that they were outlawed by the Roman Senate in 186 BCE.
