The Environmental Bind Rune Script

Sometimes the magick just happens. We were studying bind rune scripts, possibly the most powerful form of runic magick, and this bind rune script birthed itself.

Rune scripts are a series of runes set to form a sequence of events. bind runes, runes melded together, are used in causing a permanent, long-term change to a person or environment.

In a rune script, one event happens and then the next, and the "used" rune becomes inactive. But in a bind rune script, each bind rune remains in effect as the next takes place, creating a powerful layered magick.

For practice, our class decided to build a bind rune script for the mutual survival of the Earth, Her creatures and humanity.

I'd brought in the Yggdrasil bind rune presented by the Dragon Environmental Group (Green Egg Magazine #104), another student had discovered the Triple Dagaz, and the Beorc-Wheel had been used by a friend of my teacher's as a tattoo. It signified her marriage to and mothership of the Earth.

		The first bind rune, Triple Dagaz, really blew us away. It is composed of 3 Dagaz. An ancient symbol, most commonly, to the Jews, the triple Dagaz is the Star of David, but many other cultures, such as the Hindu hold it sacred. It means "as above, so below". It is also a symbol of opening the heart chakra. Dagaz symbolizes breakthrough, the door into another realm of being.
		The major harmonic of this bind rune is 3 x 24 or Thurisaz x Dagaz. Thurisaz is the rune of protection and of adaptations, which help the species survive. Thus the bind rune says, "We make a survival breakthrough."

This central bind rune tells us what the bind rune script is about. Here we have the World Tree, Yggdrasil. The runes used are:

		Isa which we utilize here to halt the destruction that has begun.
		Kenaz is the hearthfire of kinship with All Living. It is the torch which enlightens and the flame of technology (which we can bend to Earth-healing purposes as well).
		Tyr is the rune of the spiritual warrior who sacrifices for the Cosmic Balance. And also victory over adverse conditions.
		Laguz means "lake," healing, intuition, openness and psychic power.
		Fehu (there are two back-to-back in this bind rune) is the rune of mobile wealth. The environmental movement needs a sending of money. But more, this rune rules energy (wealth is, after all, a form of energy), to restore the earth.
		Algiz is protection from the Gods. We will need their help, for certain. But it can also mean protection from the interference of the gods -- so if we want to save the Earth, we'd better realize the WE must begin to take action.

This bind rune says "We learn to apply ourselves effectively and correctly to save the Earth."

		The final bind rune is a sunwheel made of four beorcs. Beorc symbolizes children, the continuance of the race, fertility.
		The main harmonic here is 4 x 18 Ansuz x Beorc. Ansuz is the rune of word fame, of communication. This bind rune aids us in passing the message on to future generations so that the mistakes of the past will not be repeated. "We do not forget to tell the children why."

Harmonically, each one of bind runes figures out to 72. "Funny how that happens," said my teacher. Multiples of 24 are powerful numbers, which invoke the power of the entire rune set. Runic harmonics tell us the way in which a bind rune or runescript may manifest. For example, the Triple Dagaz manifests in a protective way.

Harmonics for a bind rune are figured by adding each rune used and then seeing what numbers these are divisible by. The runes are numbered from 1 to 24. Odahl #23 and Dagaz #24 are usually transposed when the full set is written down so that the runic order will not be invoked, thus bringing on the Ragnarock.

The harmonics of these bind runes are as follows:

Triple Dagaz		3 x Dagaz #24 = 72
Yggdrasil		Isa #11 + Kenaz #6 + Teiwaz #17 + Laguz #21 + Fehu #1 + Fehu #1 + Algiz #15 = 72 *
Beorc-Wheel		4 x Beorc #18 = 72

3 x 24				Thurisaz x Dagaz		Survival breakthrough.
4 x 18				Ansuz x Beorc		Teaching the children, or communicating the fertile power of the Earth.
6 x 12				Kenaz x Jera		Kenaz is science, that which allows us to "triumph over nature"; and also "kinship". Jera is the cycle of seed and harvest. This harmonic teaches us that our greatest triumph will be in learning to flow with nature's cycles Also, try "kinship with all things of Earth by living within the cycles of nature"!
8 x 9				Wunjo x Hagal		A happy calamity or harmony through living within nature's structure. Wunjo is the rune of joy, harmony, balance and compromise. Hagal means "hail," thus natural disaster. But this "disaster" is only Nature's way of throwing a teaching at you, so that you may grow by overcoming the challenge. Like Saturn, Hagal may not always feel great when you're living it, but in the end, things work out to put you on your path. Hagal is also the forces of nature Itself. This harmonic suggests that the earth changes which we are now experiencing, will in the end, be for our betterment.

There are three bind runes in this script. This gives the script a further harmonic of Thurisaz #3. Again, the protective, survival aspects of the bind rune script are enhanced.

And so, with my blessings, I offer this bind rune script. I will be empowering it each year at Summer Solstice and I encourage you to join us in that. Use the bind rune script on your magickal items, on letters to congressmen, planted in your garden, carved or painted onto (willing) rocks, on whatever. Each time you use it, tell two friends. Let it multiply and heal the Earth.

* In determining what runes create a bind rune, we figure the harmonics several different ways and then go with the one that best fits our purpose. The Yggdrasil could be seen as 1 each of the other runes and 3 Algiz. This would give a harmonic of 101. As a prime number it is very strong, but has none of the depth that it does when figured out our way. We hope the original creators of the bind rune don't mind. Back to the bind rune script.
